About your problem
Physical or mechanical complaints (ones that give us pain when we move) we encounter, can involve nerve, muscles or joints.
The muscles might be weak or overactive, the joints might be stiff or too loose and the nerves may be sensitive or simply stuck to structures around it.
Whatever the physical complaint, if we think about it too much it can escalate the problem (i.e. stress and anxiety) which can often mean we guard the pain making it worse. Over a period of time these acute problems may become chronic (over 3-6 months). If left for too long then the condition becomes more difficult to treat.
There are various causes of our mechanical problems which can be due to:-
- Trauma (i.e. fall, football injury or a whiplash)
- Wear and Tear (degenerative, osteoarthritis)
- Posture (sitting badly or for too long)
- Instability (weak muscles which makes the joint weaker)
